The FA Cup always brings shocks and many Premier League clubs have fallen in the third round.
Aston Villa were surprised by Stevenage, Newcastle lost to Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest handled Blackpool and Bournemouth were well beaten by Burnley.
Everton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Brentford fell to Premier League rivals while Manchester United, Manchester City, Southampton and West Ham progressed to the next stage.
Tottenham, Leicester City, Fulham and Brighton withstood poor bids, while Wolves and Liverpool drew and go into a rematch, while Leeds will have to play Cardiff City again.
